Collinite 100, 845 and 885: Choosing the Right Protection for the Job
Collinite’s range covers three very different detailing decisions. The Collinite 100 Beadcoat Ceramic + Graphene Sealant is the quick, modern spray option. The Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax 845 is the versatile liquid carnauba wax with a long-established formula. The Collinite Fleetwax 885 is the maximum-durability paste wax designed for demanding marine protection. Choosing between them is less about finding one universal winner and more about matching application effort and protection priorities to the vehicle and the job.
Collinite 100: the fast ceramic-graphene route
Collinite 100 is the easiest way into this trio when turnaround time matters. It is a SiO2 and graphene spray sealant with an advanced ceramic-graphene resin structure. The intended result is ultra-durable hydrophobic protection and a mirror-like finish, with 6+ months of stand-alone protection without a professional coating setup.
For a detailer, its biggest strength is the balance between speed and capability. It uses an easy wipe-on, wipe-off application and needs no curing lamps or special equipment. Extreme water beading helps repel water, dirt and contaminants on contact, while UV- and detergent-resistant shine supports regular-use vehicles. It can also enhance and preserve existing ceramic or graphene coatings, or work as a lubricating drying aid once a base coat has been applied.
Its broad surface compatibility makes it useful beyond painted panels: it is safe for paint, glass, wheels and exterior trim. A 16oz bottle covers 600–1,000 sq ft. Choose Collinite 100 when the customer wants contemporary ceramic-graphene protection, quick application and strong hydrophobic behaviour, especially when a full professional coating setup is not part of the job.
Collinite 845: the all-purpose liquid wax
Liquid Insulator Wax 845 sits in the middle of the ease-of-use and durability spectrum. Its liquid carnauba wax formula combines the deep shine and wetness associated with carnauba with sealant-level durability. It offers up to 6 months of protection, including on non-garaged vehicles, and provides outstanding water beading.
This is the practical choice when a detailer wants a familiar wax appearance and broad vehicle coverage without moving to a paste application. The formula has been unchanged for over 25 years. It protects against UV, rain, salt, dust and bugs, and is clear-coat safe on modern factory and custom paint finishes. Application is straightforward, with minimal rubbing or buffing needed.
845 is not limited to enthusiast cars. It is suitable for cars, trucks, buses and aircraft, and covers 1,200–2,000 sq ft per 16oz bottle. Its history is also distinctive: it was originally developed for electric power companies to protect against high-voltage failure, fires and explosions, and was later adopted for automobiles, trucks, buses and aircraft. Choose 845 when versatility, efficient coverage, carnauba gloss and a substantial protection period matter more than the fastest spray workflow or the most durable paste option.
Collinite 885: the durability-first paste
Fleetwax 885 is the demanding end of the spectrum. It is Collinite’s longest-lasting marine weather protection paste wax, rivalling leading paint sealants for durability while delivering a high-luster carnauba shine. Its focus is maximum protection rather than the quickest application.
885 protects against UV, salt spray, marine growth and stains. It can reduce drag and increase surface sleekness, and its multi-surface compatibility includes gel coat, fiberglass, clear coat, painted metals, chrome, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and brass. That makes it relevant not only to boats, but also to RVs and aircraft. The product is supplied in a 12oz size and is handcrafted and poured in the USA, where Collinite has done so since 1912.
The trade-off is the paste-wax workflow: a detailer choosing 885 is prioritising its marine-grade durability and broad surface use over the convenience of a spray sealant. Its award history includes Editor’s Choice from Practical Sailor in 2009, Top Paste Wax from Powerboat Reports in 2004 and Top Performer from Powerboat Reports in 1994. Choose it when the vehicle faces demanding exposure, or when the customer specifically values the longest-lasting protection and is prepared for a more deliberate paste-wax application.
How to choose
- Choose Collinite 100 for a fast wipe-on, wipe-off ceramic-graphene sealant, strong hydrophobic behaviour, existing coating maintenance or a modern protection workflow.
- Choose 845 for a versatile liquid wax that combines carnauba wetness with sealant-level durability and efficient coverage across cars, trucks, buses and aircraft.
- Choose 885 when durability and resistance to marine weather, salt spray and stains take priority over application speed, particularly for boats, RVs and aircraft.
For Indian professional and enthusiast detailers, the useful distinction is simple: 100 is the quick ceramic spray sealant, 845 is the legendary all-purpose liquid carnauba wax, and 885 is the maximum-durability marine-grade paste wax. Match the product to the required finish, surface, exposure and available working time rather than treating the three as interchangeable.
